There are so many storms right now and it is important to be prepared. Growing up I lived in a house where my father was prepared for any weather condition. Over the years I have also researched how to be prepared with or without someone else. Here are a few of the essentials that I recommend.

Water: Each person should have at least one gallon per day. Besides two cases of water I also fill up old milk jugs and store them in my walk-in closet. The weather service has also advised filling up your bathtub when there is a hurricane or heavy thunderstorm.
Food: Don't forget a can opener and utensils. There are survival kits that include non-perishable food. Ready-Hour offers 120 servings. https://amzn.to/3OVeEXX

3. Battery powered or hand-crank radio. Love this radio that is solar charged. Not only is a weather radio but can charge various devices: https://amzn.to/3KIBG2P

5. Lighting. This collapsible camping lanterns are perfect that run off of batteries. https://amzn.to/3OwYpju

7. Sanitary items. Don't forget toilet paper, diapers, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, contact lens solution, femine products. Make sure to put everything in water proof containers.
8. Games and activities. Growing up this was the best thing about losing power. Our family would play games into the night. Always have a deck of cards to start.

Don't forget your medications. You should also include emergency documents such as identification, doctor's name, and other contacts. Make sure all documents are in sealed bags. It is a good idea to have cash set aside. You can place all the essentials recommended in a bin or have a backpack ready for each member of your household. Stay safe out there.
